Property tax shift is nothing more than a shaft

The Pocono Record has a story about property tax relief that focuses on House Bill 1600.

HB 1600 is not property tax relief. It's a shift in taxes. It's a warmed-over version of Act 1, which Pennsylvania voters rejected last year.

It also shafts voters because there is nothign in the bill that guarantees that the "lower" property tax won't rise again after a higher sales tax and income tax are enacted.

It's more empty promises of tax relief tomorrow if you allow us to raise your taxes today. That's the same plan Gov. Ed Rendell has been pushing for years. Don't be fooled by Rendell and the Democrats in the House.

The only property tax relief is the elimination of school property taxes.

The only legislation that makes sense is House Bill 1275.
