Where is property tax relief on Scarnati's list of priorities?

Pennsylvania Senate President Pro Tem Joe Scarnati outlined his list of legislative priorities for 2008 in a recent interview with the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Scarnati listed a cut in the state income tax, enactment of an open records law
and passage of a statewide smoking ban as his priorities.

Conspicuously absent from Scaranti's list is property tax relief.

House Bill 1275 has been introduced. It would eliminate school property taxes for Pennsylvania homeowners. It would amount to thousands of dollars in savings for every Pennsylvania property owner. A Senate version should be a priority in 2008.

Republicans are missing a golden opportunity to take control of Pennsylvania government. A slight decrease in the state income tax would amount to a few hundred dollars in savings at most.

The party that delivers property tax relief will be rewarded with control of the Legislature and the governor's mansion in 2010. Scarnati's No. 1 priority for 2008 should be eliminating property taxes.
