Slots windfall turns out to be $61 in tax relief

A Berks County newspaper is reporting today that the much-anticipated property tax relief from the casino slots will end up being somewhere from $61 to $163 for homeowners.

Is that all there is? this is the billion dollars in tax relief that Rendell promised?

This is why Gov. Ed Rendell brought 61,000 slot machines to Pennsylvania? So homeowners can get back $61? I don't know about you, but the only people who made out on the slot parlors are Rendell's rich friends.

What can you do with $61? Maybe the idea is to encourage homeowners to go into the casinos and lose the money on the nickel slots.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and predict that my school district will raise property taxes more than $61 a year, so I won't even get the Rendell windfall.

Read the full story at the Reading Eagle Web site.

The only property tax relief Pennsylvania residents want is the ELIMINATION of school property taxes. That's what House Bill 1275 would do. Contact your state lawmaker today and tell them their job depends on their support of HB 1275.

I dont understand how you could totally wipe away all property tax. That would create a huge windfall for the Sole Proprietorship business owners living in lavish properties that report a fraction of true income, or Wealthy Execs who have many tax write-offs. I can see a split of Property Tax, Income Tax, and perhaps some sales tax. But, to be honest, Rendell would just spend all that money coming in. They steal from our Federal Highway funds for non-road projects, so what stops the lawmakers from stealing money purposed for schools.. Nothing. They can't even handle the Future Gambling money correctly. Rendell had pet projects in mind before our schools and property taxes. He allocated 400 million plus of the first gaming revenue for his pet projects, long before property Tax relief. So, we have Doctor's leaving our state due to NO lawsuit reform. We have NO real property Tax relief in sight. But, We got gambling and 400 million dollars of Pet Projects in the state un-related to education. Nice! I guess Rendell runs for President in 2012. He will fit right in with the rest of them.

Yeah, a billion dollars in property tax relief (some even promised $3 billion during the sham hearings back in '04; one senator said "billions and billions"!). So, it's a $61 rebate instead of "billions and billions"; who's counting now? The fix was in then and the fix is in now. Heads, they win; tails, we lose.
