Rep. Kate Harper seeks re-election

The Times-Herald in Norristown reports that state Rep. Kate Harper, R-Montgomery, is seeking re-election to a fifth term in the 61st House Dist.

Reporter Margaret Gibbons asked Harper is she believes she is vulnerable because she was willing to give up her House seat to run for Montgomery County commissioner last year.

"My reasons for running for county commissioner are consistent with my work in Harrisburg — the environment, transportation congestion and suburban sprawl," Harper told Gibbons.

"I thought I could do a lot of good on these issues in a much quicker period of time on the county level than in Harrisburg," said Harper, explaining her bid for the county post and emphasizing that she has not grown bored by state level politics.

The 61st District includes Upper Gwynedd and North Wales and parts of Lower Gwynedd, Montgomery Township, Plymouth, Towamencin and Whitpain.
