Don't settle for half-measures on tax relief

The Democrats who control the state House will attempt an Ed Rendell-style smoke-and-mirrors show on property taxes this week, but don't be fooled.

The Democrats' plan for tax relief, House Bill 1600, is a warmed-over version of Act 1, which Pennsylvania voters overwhelmingly rejected last year.

The only genuine tax relief on the table is House Bill 1275, sponsored by Rep. Sam Rohrer of Berks County. This is the bill that would eliminate school property taxes. It is endorsed by two dozen taxpayer groups across the state.

Read more about the effort to get HB 1275 passed in today's edition of The Tribune-Review.

Can anyone tell me what our elected officials have to gain by not listening to the people that elected them. What do they gain by supporting HB1600 that nearly all taxpayers rejected when it was called Act1. Why do they not listen? Where are they getting kickbacks from? I don't understand how a bill that is so widley supported by taxpayers and taxpayer groups (HB1275) is not on track for a full house vote. I follow this topic every day and have barely, if at all, heard of the competing bills. Please someone help me understand!

I have emailed and phoned both Rep Verbe and Sen Dinneman several times about my support of HB1275.

I have yet to receive the courtesy of a reply from Sen Dinneman. I did get a personal phone call from Rep Verbe stating that he supports tax relief but did not commit on any specific remedy.

I plan on supporting change in Harrisburg !!! The people of Pennsylvania deserve better.
