CBS affiliate fires troubled anchorwoman Alycia Lane

You can't say we didn't see it coming.

"The Latina Bombshell" is no more -- at least to Philadelphia TV viewers.

The CBS affiliate in Philadlephia announced it has fired troubled anchorwoman Alycia Lane, who is facing charges of assaulting a New York City policewoman.

Lane, 35, who reportedly makes $700,000-a-year as the 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. co-anchor on Eyewitness News, has been on extended vacation since the alleged assault.

CBS3 is upfront about the reason it fired Lane, who has not been convicted (yet) of any crime.

CBS 3 President and General Manager Michael Colleran:

"After assessing the overall impact of a series of incidents resulting from judgments she has made, we have concluded that it would be impossible for Alycia to continue to report the news as she, herself, has become the focus of so many news stories. We wish to make clear that we are not prejudging the outcome of the criminal case against Alycia that is pending in New York. We understand that Alycia expects to be fully vindicated in that proceeding. We hope that is the case and we wish her the best in all her future endeavors."

To show you how warped our sense of priorities is these days (and the media doesn't help), the Lane firing story is listed as the top news story at the CBS3 Web site, above the swearing in of the new Philadelphia mayor, who declared a crime emergency in the city today.

Alycia Lane has better legs than Mayor Michael Nutter, wouldn't you say?
