Anybody have any ideas why Philadelphia residents stopped killing each other in the final three months of 2007?
The city was headed toward breaking the 2006 murder tally of 406 until a few months ago when the number of murders started declining. The overall murder rate dropped 3 percent in 2007 compared to the previous year.
Was the election of Michael Nutter? Is this a preview of things to come in 2008 as a new police commissioner takes over for the hapless Sylvester Johnson?
A Philly blogger, MalcolmXPark.org, has a final tally of the city's 2007 murder rate and some analysis if you're interested.

Tony, since I can't think of a good reason why, the sick and twisted part of me says the murder rate went down because they've simply run out of bodies in Philly!
