A Pennsylvania State Police trooper facing DUI charges was killed early Wednesday morning while driving the wrong way down Interstate 76 in Philadelphia.
The off-duty trooper, Cpl. John Quigg, 48, of Wyndmoor, died when he crashed into an oncoming car driven by a 23-year-old Philadelphia woman, authorities said.
The accident happened around 1 a.m. Wednesday in the eastbound lanes of the Schuylkill Expressway near the Spring Garden exit ramp, police said.
Cpl. Quigg was an accident reconstruction specialist for the Pennsylvania State Police. He was scheduled to appear in court Wednesday in Montgomery County on the DUI charge, which resulted from an incident on Route 422 last year.
