Ex-Congressman Fitzpatrick wants state Legislature seat

It sucks to be Chris King, the freshman Democrat who represents the 142nd House district in the Pennsylvania Legislature.

King snuck into office in 2006 as part of the anti-pay raise, anti-incumbency movement. King defeated longtime Republican incumbent Matt Wright, who overstayed his welcome in Harrisburg.

But with little to show in his first term, King now faces one of the best known politicians in Bucks County.

The Doylestown Intelligencer is reporting that former U.S. Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick is planning to seek the Republican nomination to run against King.

Fitzpatrick narrowly lost his re-election bid for Congress in 2006 against Patrick Murphy as part of the Democratic Party tide that took control of Congress.

Fitzpatrick, a lawyer and former Bucks County commissioner, has the name recognition, the financial resources and the experience to make King a one-term legislator.

"I intend to change the way business is done in Harrisburg," Fitzpatrick told the newspaper. "We need to control the growth of spending in government, expand economic opportunities and restore honesty to the process. I will bring a unique perspective along with a proven record of accomplishment for the people I serve."
