Paolino serious about 17th Dist. Senate seat

How serious is Lisa Paolino about winning the Republican nomination to run in the 17th District state Senate race?

Paolino's campaign announced today that she has raised more than $100,000 in her bid to run for the seat being vacated by Democratic state Sen. Connie Williams.

Paolino, a Radnor Township Commissioner, began raising money in earnest in mid-February, according to her campaign.

"Obviously I am gratified and thrilled with the terrific financial response I have received in the past few weeks," Paolino said in a press release. "Having now raised more than $100,000, I am confident that I can run an aggressive campaign to win the Republican Primary, and then take this seat back for the GOP in November."

The 17th District is primarily in Montgomery County, but includes the Delaware County communities of Radnor and Haverford.

Paolino, a Bryn Mawr resident, received the unanimous endorsement of the Radnor GOP Committee last week.

But she is still considered an underdog for the GOP nomination because the Montgomery County GOP Committee is backing attorney Lance Rogers, a Lower Merion Township Commissioner.

Montgomery County Sheriff John P. Durante was also interested in running in the Republican primary, but withdrew his name from the ballot after he failed to win party backing last month.

The winner of the April 22 Republican primary will face state Rep. Daylin Leach, who is running unopposed in the Democratic primary.

Paolino is a graduate of Villanova University with more than 20 years of professional business experience, most recently as vice president of operations and marketing for Mace Securities. She also serves as vice chairwoman of the American Red Cross Board of Directors SEPA Chapter and the board of directors of the Wayne Art Center.

The 17th State Senate District is comprised of Radnor and Haverford in Delaware County, and Bridgeport, Conshohocken, West Conshohocken, Narberth, Norristown, East Norriton, Lower Merion, Plymouth and Upper Merion in Montgomery County.

Yes she received the nomination from Radnor, but IF you KNEW how Radnor worked? Also, lest you forget: the recognized and endorsed candidate from Delaware County is also Lance Rogers - Tom Judge decided that when he deferred to Montgomery County. Check their website - she ain't listed is she?

And of course she's been out raising money, it's not like she has anything else to do, right? Where does the money come from?

Where is she on any issues?

Is the above comment referring to Ken Davis' sham endorsement convention???

We've never heard from Tom Judge, even though the press reportedly contacted him for a comment.

All we have is Ken Davis' word that Tom Judge went along with the sham convention -- and there's priceless audio of Ken Davis' word at Bill Shaw's blog:

Can it be said that Ken Davis speaks for the GOP party?

The “Montgomery County” endorsement convention should be called the “Ken Davis” convention. And we all know how the MontCo GOP committee people feel about Ken Davis after he handed the Courthouse to the Democratic party (why he did it, I’m not sure, but don’t forget he makes his living as a lobbyist.).

Remember how Ken Davis orchestrated the outcome of the sham convention. There’s audio evidence that he deliberately excluded Lisa Paolino from the ballot and would not even let her attend the 17th District Endorsement Convention. In that phone message, he also made it clear that he would throw out any Delaware County Committee People who showed up at the 17th District Senate Seat endorsement convention.

Ken Davis referred to Lisa Paolino as a "problem" and as "that... woman" in his phone message. All this is on the Davis phone message found at http://writemarsh.blogspot.com/2008/02/davis-phone-message.html).

One of the comments on that blog makes an excellent point: “What if Ken Davis deliberately excluded an African American candidate or a Hispanic candidate instead of a woman? And what if Ken Davis referred to a minority candidate as "that... Black" or "that... Hispanic" and as a "problem"?”

Ken Davis’ actions do not represent the beliefs of the MontCo Republican Party, and the Committee People won’t stand for his nonsense any more. That’s why he’s getting pushed out of the MontCo Chairman’s position, and not soon enough.

Wow- a lot of negative comments on this blog. My husband and I live in Radnor 5th Ward and are very happy with our Commissioner Lisa Paolino. If you don't know her you will soon find out how effective she is, when she is involved in an issue there are results. 9 years versus 2 years in elected office-maybe thats why some bloggers have to be negative.

I just want to clarify something for the last reader who left a comment about "negative bloggers." I didn't say anything negative about Lisa Paolino other than she's facing an uphill battle because most of the district is in Montgomery County. That's a fact. The other people who left comments to my original post are not bloggers. They are readers. Just wanted to clear that up in case anyone is confused.

Looks to me like the campaign is posting on the Board. If Lisa is so great why was she only able to win her last election by only 2 votes? The R's outnumber the Ds 2 to 1 and the turnout was largest in at least the last 20 years.

I am looking forward to seeing the campaign finance reports.

Amen to campaign finance reports, to discovering if she is really pro-choice like http://www.pawcf.com/2008.html indicates? (bet those voters who worship at Our Lady of Assumption will dig that, eh?) Sure Radnor 5th warder, there are ways to be effective and ways to be effective aren't there? 9 years as a local yokel politician vs. 2 years with a superb education and real life experience? I'll go with the latter. Radnor can just keep their candidate. Harrisburg deserves better.
