Residents pan Pa. State Rep. Painter's tax reform scheme

Democratic Pa. State Rep. Mark Painter has introduced a complicated scheme that he refers to as property tax relief. Judging from the response from readers of The Pottstown Mercury, nobody is buying what Painter is selling. Here's a sampling of comments from the newspaper's Sound Off column:
What a disappointment to see state Rep. Mark Painter's answer to property tax relief. The only ones losing in his plan again are the senior homeowners. Instead of losing their homes outright, they can watch their home values erode out from under them. The tax burden stays the same. It will just take longer for the takeover and those benevolent corporations because their assistance is backed by real property.
BRRN
This is about Rep. Mark Painter's help for seniors to pay property taxes. That is the most ridiculous solution to the problem I have ever heard. Pay your taxes with a lien and then lose your home. We are losing our homes to liens now. We don’t need his bill to create an even bigger mess.

I read that Rep. Mark Painter is out to help the senior citizens by being a modern Robin Hood by taking from the poor to give to the rich. This is his plan for property tax relief? I say modify House Bill 76, increase the state tax from 6 to 7 percent, increase personal income tax to 4.37 percent and then lock all property taxes to 30 or 40 percent of what we are paying now. The key word is "lock in," cannot be removed. That's property relief.
AMERICAN CITIZEN
When state Rep. Mark Painter first got elected, I thought he was for property tax elimination. Now it sounds like he's in favor of reverse mortgage or let somebody else pay the taxes and eventually owe. I guess he’s given up now totally on property tax elimination. Why waste your time?

PA Democrats score high in gun-control survey

If you believe in the 2nd Amendment, you definitely do not want to vote for Democrats Allyson Schwartz of Katie McGinty, who are both running for Pennsylvania governor. Both are gun control fanatics, who scored a "perfect" 100 from the liberal anti-gun group CeaseFirePA

Fellow Democrats Rob McCord and Tom Wolf, also seeking the Democratic Party nomination to run against Republican Gov. Tom Corbett, were not far behind in their support for gun control.

'God's Not Dead' a surprise box-office smash

While "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" was setting box-office records over the weekend, a lesser-known film starring former "Hercules" star Kevin Sorbo, could end up being the most profitable film of 2014.

Sure the Disney/Marvel "Captain America" sequel took in $95 million in its opening weekend, but the film cost $170 million to make.

The film perched at No. 4 in this weekend's box-office list is "God's Not Dead," which earned another $7.7 million to bring its three-week total to $32.5 million. And how much did "God's Not Dead" cost to make? A paltry $2 million, which probably covered the catering bill for "Captain America."

"God's Not Dead" added nearly 600 new theaters over the weekend and continued to take in a healthy $4,414 per screen.

So while "Captain America" will need another couple of weeks just to earn back its production costs, the faith-based "God's Not Dead"is earning record profits for an independent film.

P.S. - Another faith-based movie, "Son of God" has also done well at the box-office, earning $58.5 million in six weeks of release.

Maybe the heathens in Hollywood will get the message that Christian entertainment is welcomed by the majority of Americans.

Ryan Costello Endorsed by Lebanon County GOP for Pa.'s 6th Congressional Seat

This just in from Ryan Costello for Congress campaign:
WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Members of the Lebanon County Republican Committee voted unanimously tonight to endorse Ryan Costello for Congress in Pennsylvania 6th Congressional District. Party leaders cited Ryan’s commitment to fiscal responsibility, implementing policies to promote job creation, and his commitment to work in a common sense fashion to build consensus on issues important to the region.

"The Lebanon County Republican Party is excited by and pleased to support Ryan Costello’s candidacy in the 6th congressional District," said Pat Braden, chair of the county party. "Ryan will work to get our nation’s fiscal house in order and work to build a consensus around policies that are focused on getting people back to work. Just as important, we know that Ryan will be at the forefront of the fight for individual rights and in opposition to a large, bloated federal government."

"I appreciate the support of the leadership and rank and file members of the Lebanon County Republican Party and the confidence they have placed in me," said Ryan Costello, who currently serves as Chairman of the Chester county Board of Commissioners. "I know that many Americans are frustrated by government overspending, the expanding government bureaucracy, and polices that seem to undermine rather than promote job creation. But I am optimistic that, working together, we can find pragmatic sensible solutions that will get our country back on the right track and create a brighter future for local residents and future generations."
Costello, currently chairman of the Chester County Board of Commissioners, is a favorite to succeed fellow Chester County Republican Jim Gerlach, who is not seeking re-election to Congress.

Bill O'Reilly: Global Warming Quacks Like Al Gore Get Rich By Spreading Fear

Bill O'Reilly on how Al Gore and other Global Warming charlatans are lining their own pockets by spreading fear:
Truth is, in the climate debate there is money under every glacier. Al Gore may have begun his proselytizing to do good, but he also did quite well, pocketing tens of millions of dollars. On the other hand, "green investing" didn't turn into green for T. Boone  Pickens, who invested in wind farms and got blown right off the Forbes 400 list. "I lost my ass," is how the down-home Pickens put it.

Newspaper: Antietam-Exeter schools merger makes sense

The Reading Eagle is backing a merger of the Antietam and Exeter school districts in Berks County, Pa. Despite opposition from a group of narrow-minded Exeter residents, the newspaper doesn't see a downside to the merger: "Unless there is evidence that merging would have a negative financial or educational impact on Exeter, joining forces with Antietam is the proper thing to do," states an editorial in today's edition. "We hope Exeter board members have the courage and wisdom to see beyond that narrow view and weigh the issues involved without being intimidated by the noise being made by merger foes. Sometimes the right thing to do isn't popular or easy."

Confused Dems bash Pa. Gov. Corbett for new taxes and fees supported by Dems

Isn't politics wonderful? The Democratic Party in Pennsylvania is criticizing Republican Gov. Tom Corbett for signing a $2.3 billion transportation bill that requires higher fees and a gas tax hike to fix the state's roads and bridges. The bill was passed with Democratic support in the Legislature and all of the Democratic candidates for governor support higher taxes and fees. So what exactly are Democrats complaining about?

Could it be that Democrats have nothing to offer Pennsylvania voters except higher taxes and more reckless spending so they have to invent controversy to distract people?

End desecration of Christian churches - Ask your member of Congress to support H.R. 4347

Ask your member of Congress to support this bill. The Muslim Turks have destroyed some of the oldest Christian churches and monasteries in the world since Turkey invaded Cyprus in 1974. And US tax dollars are still pouring into Turkey.

The bipartisan bill, introduced by House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Ed Royce (R-CA) and Ranking Democrat Eliot Engel (D-NY), seeks to draw much-needed attention on the status of Christian and minority religious sites and institutions in Turkey and in occupied Cyprus.
