The Reading Eagle is backing a merger of the Antietam and Exeter school districts in Berks County, Pa. Despite opposition from a group of narrow-minded Exeter residents, the newspaper doesn't see a downside to the merger: "Unless there is evidence that merging would have a negative financial or educational impact on Exeter, joining forces with Antietam is the proper thing to do," states an editorial in today's edition. "We hope Exeter board members have the courage and wisdom to see beyond that narrow view and weigh the issues involved without being intimidated by the noise being made by merger foes. Sometimes the right thing to do isn't popular or easy."
