Rep. Tom Quigley: 'Not the end of the property tax elimination movement'

The campaign to eliminate school property taxes in Pennsylvania has suffered a setback after a financial analysis showed switching from the property tax to a combination of an expanded sales tax and income tax would not bring in adequate revenues to fund public education.

Rep. Tom Quigley (R-Montgomery) issued the following statement:
"I believe there is a way to address the needs of our public schools that does not rely on property taxes; however, the reports presented today exhibit how more work needs to be done on these proposals to ensure they are fiscally sound. While this is a setback, it is not the end of the property tax elimination movement.  Proponents will continue to update the legislation until the numbers add up."
