Ground Zero Mosque Opposition: 'You Might Be a Bigot If...'

Terrific new column by Doug Giles on the Ground Zero Mosque controversy:

America, if being a bigot means that:

  • I can't listen to my gut,
  • or suspect their motives,
  • or wonder aloud how wrong it is to have a Mosque built in close proximity to such a calamity,
  • or I'm disallowed to question and connect the dots with Rauf's radical associations and statements,
  • or if I do not want what has happened in Europe to ever happen here where we lose our national identity and liberties by propping up their preposterous wishes

... then I guess I might be a bigot. However, I prefer a tag of my own choosing, namely, "Islamo-nauseous," as I am sick of them talking smack about our country while demanding everything from it.

Sen. Mensch Questions Rendell Statements on Job Figures

State Sen. Bob Mensch (R-24th Senate Dist.) is questioning Gov. Ed Rendell’s statement on job report figures for the month of July that highlighted "moderate private sector job gains," but glossed over a net loss of 7,000 jobs for the month and failed to note that the rising unemployment rate of 9.3 percent is at its highest point in more than 26 years.

From a Mensch press release:

“If we are going to truly work in a bi-partisan effort to get the state’s economy back on track and start creating jobs, then we need an honest discussion about the economic challenges facing Pennsylvania,” said Senator Mensch. “The state’s unemployment rate is at its highest point since 1984, we continue to see significant job losses, and Pennsylvanians are dropping out of the job market at an alarming rate. These facts need to be discussed openly so that we can begin to build a consensus for the changes in economic and tax policies that are necessary to attract new businesses and jobs to the state.”

According to news reports, while the private sector added 3,400 jobs in July – mostly attributable to casinos hiring new employees due to table games – Pennsylvania actually experienced a net reduction of 7,000 jobs due to the loss of 10,400 government sector jobs, most of which were temporary jobs with the U.S. Census Bureau. The Harrisburg news service Capitolwire also reported that the July unemployment rate of 9.3 percent was the highest it has been since May 1984. It also reported a 43,000-person decline in the number of Pennsylvania residents working or looking for work, which comes on the heels of a 27,000 person drop in the state workforce in the month of June.

“Our current economic policies are not getting the job done,” said Mensch. “If we are going to put people back to work in Pennsylvania, we need to develop a more friendly business environment that allows small businesses to flourish and create new job opportunities for the state’s workforce.”

To achieve this goal, Mensch has introduced a legislative agenda designed to jumpstart the Commonwealth’s economy by making Pennsylvania’s tax policies and economic environment more competitive with other states. These bills would lower the state’s Personal Income Tax (PIT) rate to provide workers with more disposable income, create a job training tax credit for employers, reduce the Corporate New Income (CNI) tax rate which is the second highest in the country, remove the cap on the Net-Operating Loss carry-forward that hurts manufacturers and high-growth start up companies, and address inequities in the single sales factor that penalizes companies that move their base of operations into Pennsylvania.

Mensch is running on a platform of returning fiscal responsibility to Harrisburg, opposing tax increases on working families and seniors, improving the state’s economic environment and job creation, and enhancing local open space preservation efforts.

Glenn Beck rally attendance: Calculating how many really showed up

Does it really matter whether 300,000 or 500,000 or 1 million people showed up for Glenn Beck's rally?

What matters is Nov. 2 - Election Day - when tens of millions of Americans can take their country back from the left-wing radicals.

On a side note, a person who was at the rally on Saturday (someone I trust) told me there were no more than 200-300 people at the Al Sharpton counter-rally but the media reported 2,000-3,000 people there.

So it's clear the the liberal media has trouble counting. Whatever the number reported by the mainstream media for the Beck rally, multiply it by 10 and you'll get closer to the actual count.

For those of you who did not vote for McCain in 2008 because you thought he was too old to be elected president and may have died in office, resulting in Sarah Palin becoming president, how do you feel now after 2 years of the disastrous Obama Regime and Joe Biden, arguably the dumbest man to ever serve as vice president?

Business leaders endorse Gerlach for Congress

The Chester County Chamber of Business and Industry has endorsed Republican U.S. Rep. Jim Gerlach in Pennsylvania's 6th Congressional Dist.

In its release, Chamber Board Chairman Brian DiSabatino stated Gerlach will “advance an agenda that helps to grow our economy with the private sector leading the way.”

The Chamber noted that Gerlach stood with small businesses on issues of tax relief, health care, tort reform, and against job-killing measures like “card check” and “cap and trade.”

Gerlach has represented the 6th District (portions of Berks, Chester, Lehigh and Montgomery counties) since 2003.

“As unemployment and a weakened economy continue to financially strain southeastern Pennsylvania families, it is crystal clear that our businesses and job creators, not government, will grow our way out of this recession and get people back to work. Giving them the tools to do that is my top priority in Congress,” Gerlach said. “We have to put in place pro-growth, pro-jobs measures that will help small businesses turn this economy around. I’m proud to stand with the Chester County Chamber and pledge to continue working together to move that agenda forward.”

Gerlach's campaign was quick to point out how anti-business his Democratic opponent is.

Manan Trivedi, opposes extending the tax cuts of 2001 and 2003 which will result in the largest tax increase on individuals and businesses in American history, and has stated he supports the $1 trillion 2009 ‘stimulus’ which has done nothing to create jobs but will leave a mountain of debt for future generations of Americans.

Trivedi’s most recent endorsement came from the Howard Dean-backed Democracy for America, a left-wing fringe group of liberal activists.

Andrew Klavan: A Young Person's Guide to the United States Constitution

What's on the minds of Pennsylvania voters?

It's beginning to look like a GOP rout in Pennsylvania as voters are looking for change after the disastrous Obama administration and Democratic-controlled Congress.

Highlights from the highly-respected Franklin & Marshall College Poll:
1) The percentage of Pennsylvanians who say the state is headed in the right direction now stands at 30 percent -- a 15 year low -- while 58 percent believe it is off on the wrong track.

2) Pennsylvanians continue to express pessimism about the economy. A third (33%) find their personal finances worse off this year than last, and only about one in four (24%) expect their personal finances to be better off a year from now. These figures have changed little since March.

3) In the governor's race Tom Corbett holds an 11 point lead over Dan Onorato, (38% to 27%), among likely voters with slightly less than one third (31%) undecided and four percent who would chose someone else. Among registered adults, Corbett holds a one point lead, (29% to 28%), with 39 percent undecided and four percent supporting another candidate. Registered adults cite the economy, reducing spending/debt, and taxes (29%, 11%, and 9%), respectively, as the most important issues in their vote for governor.

4) Among likely voters, Pat Toomey leads Joe Sestak (40% to 31%) in their primary race for U.S. senate, with about one in four (26%) undecided and three percent with another choice. When registered adults are considered, Toomey's lead narrows, 31 percent to 28 percent, with almost four in ten (38%) without a preference. More registered Pennsylvanians cite the economy (35%) as the most important issue in their vote for U.S. senate than did in May (26%).

5) President Obama's job approval in Pennsylvania remain relatively weak with only 37 percent of voters finding his performance positive, specifically nine percent "excellent" and 28 percent "good." Five times as many Pennsylvanians (35%) rate the president's job performance as "poor" compared to "excellent." Governor Ed Rendell's job performance is even weaker -- only 30 percent find his performance positive, seven percent find it "excellent" and 23 percent say it is "good." The same proportions (30%) say he is doing a "poor job."

6) Democrats are less likely to vote at the moment than Republicans. Only 37 percent of Democrats are likely to vote compared to 45 percent of Republicans. In another comparison, about one third (35%) of those who voted for Obama in 2008 are likely to vote now compared to half (50%) of McCain voters.

'Cruel Summer' under Obama

YouCut slashes government waste

YouCut slashes government waste

By Rep. Joe Pitts

With limited resources, Congress cannot spend money lightly. The Congressional Budget Office estimates this year's deficit will total more than $1.34 trillion. This year, I've voted against a number of bills funding seemingly worthy government programs because they increased our already historic deficit.

I believe that in a time of such large deficits, Congress needs to make tough decisions about how we are spending taxpayer money. The longer we wait to get control of the federal budget, the greater the burden on future generations.

Over the past nine weeks the House has been in session, Republicans have offered more than $120 billion in cuts to wasteful federal government spending. These cuts could have been used to pay for extensions of unemployment compensation, COBRA health insurance assistance and state Medicaid assistance with tens of billions of dollars still remaining to reduce this year's deficit.

All of these cuts were offered as part of the YouCut program, an effort to include the American people in the fight to cut waste. Each week that Congress is in session, Republican Whip Eric Cantor hosts a poll on his website at www.republicanwhip.house.gov/YouCut The poll offers five different government programs that could be considered wasteful.

Participants can vote for the cut they support by voting online or sending a text message from their phone. The cut receiving the most votes is offered as a motion on the House floor and every Member has to decide whether they support the program.

What type of cuts have been winning polls so far?

One of the first cuts offered by the program was a freeze in federal civilian wages that would save $2 billion. Employees in the private sector and seniors on Social Security have seen their wages and benefits remain level because of the recession and low inflation. Even Congressional pay has been frozen for the past two years. However, federal employees received a 3.9 percent raise in 2010 and a 3.5 percent raise in 2009.

Another winning YouCut measure was legislation to require an expedited process for selling unneeded federal property with 80 percent of the revenue going to reduce the deficit. The federal government is the largest property owner in the U.S. While much of this land is valuable wilderness areas, national forests and national parks, the Office of Management and Budget estimates that the federal government is holding $18 billion in real property that it does not need.

The winning cut in week six aimed to stop taxpayer support for union activities. Some federal employees currently spend their entire workweek on union activity. Federal employees should be doing the business of the people, and union membership fees should be used to compensate workers for performing union organizing and lobbying. It's estimated that in a single year $120 million is spent paying federal employees who are doing union work.

The ideas for YouCut don't strictly come from Republican members. The latest winning entry was proposed by four Democratic Congressmen who have started a working group to reduce the deficit. The Advanced Earned Income Tax Credit allows certain taxpayers to receive a portion of their earned income tax credit throughout the year in their paychecks. An audit found that 80 percent of the recipients did not comply with all of the program's requirements and that the program is rarely used. Eliminating it would save $1.1 billion over ten years.

Each of the nine winning cuts has been offered by Republicans as a motion on the House floor. While none of these motions have passed, many have attracted bipartisan support from Democrats who are also concerned about our growing national debt.

Our debt isn't a Republican problem or a Democrat problem. Both parties have increased the deficit in recent years and it will take both parties working together to balance our budget and get our country back on a stable fiscal footing. I've proudly voted for each YouCut measure and so far more than 1.4 million votes have been cast in the weekly polls. A new poll is up on the website right now and I invite you to join the effort to rein in government waste: www.republicanwhip.house.gov/YouCut

That Mosqued Man

Investor's Business Daily looks at the man behind the Ground Zero mosque:
Rauf says the U.S. "has more Muslim blood on its hands than al-Qaida has on its hands of innocent non-Muslims." He also claims U.S. "policies were an accessory to" 9/11 and that "in the most direct sense, Osama bin Laden is made in the USA."

Rauf's reputed links to the Muslim Brotherhood are a problem. That group insists members "understand that their work in America is a kind of grand Jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within" and sabotaging "its miserable house."

A real moderate should at least denounce Hamas, a terrorist group. Rauf won't. Yet, the mainstream media have been filled with mostly sympathetic profiles of Rauf's "moderation."

Why can't the media be bothered to do their job? Maybe it's because they're too busy slandering the public.

Key endorsement for David M. Maloney in 130th State House Race

From Kim Stolfer, chairman of Firearms Owners Against Crime, on the group's endorsement of Republican David M. Maloney, candidate for the 130th District in the Pennsylvania House:
We, FOAC, are convinced that Mr. Maloney will actively support Pennsylvania citizen’s rights to defend themselves, their families and our constitutional heritage.

We believe that a strong, independent and constitutionally sound government is essential for our society to flourish, especially in these trying times. We have been in contact with Mr. Maloney for many months and he has demonstrated his knowledge of issues important to FOAC and we are confident he will represent the best interests of all Pennsylvanians regarding Second Amendment issues.

Mr. Maloney’s opponent in the November election, State Rep. Dave Kessler (D) who is also Chairman of the Oley Township Supervisors, voted for an ordinance to ban all firearms from all Oley Township municipal buildings. This ordinance directly violated state preemption law, our constitution and Rep. Kessler’s ‘oath of office’. Citizens and gun-owner groups strongly objected to the ban. We at FOAC and the NRA became involved and within a month Mr. Kessler and the other supervisors were forced to withdraw their own ordinance because it violated PA state law which prohibits municipalities from regulating the ownership and possession of firearms.

For more information on FOAC, visit the group's website at http://www.foac-pac.org/

Newspaper: Cut the size of PA Legislature

The Pennsylvania Legislature costs taxpayers at least $300 million a year. Does Pennsylvania, with its declining population, need one of the largest and most expensive state legislatures in the country?

From a recent editorial in The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review:
New data from Illinois -- which rivals Pennsylvania in government inefficiency and corruption -- link lavish legislative pay to bigger budget deficits. The fact bolsters the argument that Harrisburg's excesses must be tackled.

The nonpartisan, free market-oriented Illinois Policy Institute (illinoispolicy.org) found fiscal-year 2010 budget deficits in the 10 states with the lowest legislative salaries averaged 19 percent of their general funds.

In the 10 states with the highest legislative salaries -- Pennsylvania ranks fourth -- the average shortfall was 30 percent.

The Illinois issues the institute focused on mirror those that burden Pennsylvania. And the institute's conclusion about the Land of Lincoln is equally apt for the Keystone State:

"The state pays legislators considerably more than the nationwide average, and Illinois's perpetual budget deficit is a good indication that we're necessarily not getting our money's worth."

The same mindset that has led to career politicians addicted to full-time perks, per diems and personal power replacing part-time citizen legislators in Harrisburg fosters spendthrift policies that perpetuate red ink.

It's one more reason to promote a smaller Pennsylvania General Assembly.

The 5 best films of 2010 you haven't seen

Success in Hollywood is measured by box-office numbers. That doesn't mean good movies always make money. "The Hurt Locker" took in just $16.4 million in theaters last year, but won the Oscar for Best Picture. Conversely, really bad movies end up making a ton of cash. "Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel" took in $220 million. Need I say more?

Below is a list of five very good movies you may have missed at the theater this year. All are available on DVD and come highly recommended.

"From Paris With Love" is a big-budget action film with top-name stars (John Travolta and Jonathan Rhys Meyers of "The Tudors") that inexplicably tanked at the box-office, earning a paltry $24 million in February. This is one of the best action films of all time, with Travolta perfect in the role of a resourceful, wise-cracking CIA hit man showing would-be spy Meyers the ropes. The plot involves stopping a terrorist attack on Paris. There's lots of shootings and explosions and some funny lines by Travolta reminiscent of "Pulp Fiction." There's also a shocking plot twist you'll never see coming,

"Daybreakers"
made $30 million in its initial release in January, a far cry from the $296 million made by the lame teen melodrama "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse," but "Daybreakers" is by far the best vampire film of the year. It's got action, really scary scenes and best of all, it's a thinking-man's vampire movie. In the not-too-distant future (2019), a plague has turned most of the world's population into vampires who rely on a shrinking human population for blood to keep them "alive." Ethan Hawke is a vampire-scientist trying to find a blood substitute not only to provide profits for the vampire-run corporation he works for, but he has a soft-spot for humans, who are hunted to provide a blood supply for the vampires willing to pay to price. Hawke's life takes an unexpected turn when he meets Willem Dafoe, the leader of a group of human refugees. Dafoe holds the key to saving both humans and vampires, but is being hunted by the evil corporation.

"Youth In Revolt" is one of the smartest and funniest coming-of-age comedies in years, but it tanked at the box office, earning just $15 million. Michael Cera plays the familiar teenage geek bouncing between divorced parents and their odd partners. His life takes on meaning when he falls for an attractive girl (Portia Doubleday) while hiding out with his mother and her shady boyfriend (Zach Galifinakis) at a campground. Steve Buscemi and Fred Willard are hilarious in supporting roles.

"Greenberg" is an acquired taste that drags at times, but stick with it and you'll never forget this film. Ben Stiller has had a string of box-office hits by playing the same character but he's never really acted until "Greenberg," which made just $4.2 million in limited release in March. Stiller is a revelation. He deserves an Oscar nomination for his portrayal of an unlikable person who is drifting aimlessly through life. Roger Greenberg (Stiller) is a 40-year-old New Yorker who has recently suffered a nervous breakdown and moves to L.A. to house-sit for his brother and "do nothing." His plans don't work out as he encounters people from his past and starts to fall for his brother's personal assistant, a 26-year-old free spirit names Florence (played by wonderful new actress named Greta Gerwig.)

"Chloe" made just $3 million in its March release despite an A-list cast that includes Liam Neeson, Julianne Moore and Amanda Seyfried. It's a sexy suspense thriller reminiscent of "Fatal Attraction." An insecure doctor (Moore) hires a call girl (Seyfried) to seduce her college professor husband (Neeson) because Moore suspects Neeson is cheating on her. The plan backfires. Seyfried has her own agenda and ends up seducing Moore — with tragic consequences. One note of waring: The film pushes the limits of its R rating with one of the most graphic sex scenes between two big-name actresses (Moore and Seyfried) ever shown in a mainstream film.

'Cyprus: Crossroads of Civilizations' coming to Smithsonian

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of independence for the Republic of Cyprus, a special exhibit, "Cyprus: Crossroads of Civilizations," will open at the the National Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution, in Washington, D.C., in September.

The exhibit will feature more than 200 rare artifacts (sculptural figures, jewelry, metalwork, ceramics, and paintings) from the country's 10,000-year-old history.

Ranging from 10,000 B.C. to 1803 A.D., the approximately 220 objects presented in this exhibition are but a fraction of the artifacts discovered by Cypriot and foreign excavators, including many American archaeologists, according to International Arts & Artists.

Ranging from objects of the earliest villages to masterpieces of medieval religious art, this exhibition presents an overview of the unique culture of Cyprus to the North American public for the first time, according to IA&A.

"Cyprus: Crossroads of Civilizations" will run from Sept. 29, 2010, until May 1, 2011, at the Smithsonian.

Poll: Rendell job approval at 27%

It's taken them awhile, but Pennsylvania residents have finally figured out what a disastrous job Gov. Ed Rendell has done over the past eight years.

Rendell-fatigue may also sink the campaign of his protege, Dan Onorato, who wants to continue the failed Rendell agenda for another four years.

From Public Policy Polling:
Casting a very large shadow over this race is the unpopularity of outgoing Governor Ed Rendell. Only 27% of likely voters for this fall approve of the job he's doing while 63% are unhappy. Rendell's barely in positive territory even among Democrats at 45/42 and he's pretty universally disliked by Republicans (8/85) and independents (23/61.) Rendell's unpopularity can't be at all helpful for Onorato's chances. Swing voters aren't likely to choose another Democrat if they think the current one's doing a bad job, and Democrats' lack of enthusiasm about voting this year could certainly have something to do with their lukewarmness toward their party's present Governor.

Joe Sestak supports mosque at Ground Zero

The contrast between the two candidates vying for Arlen Specter's Senate seat from Pennsylvania could not be any sharper.

Liberal Democrat Joe Sestak supports building a mosque at Ground Zero. Republican Pat Toomey opposes the location of the controversial mosque.

From an article in The Philadelphia Inquirer:

"I strongly believe in the constitutional right of religious freedom and in the separation of church and state applying equally to everyone," said Sestak, a former Navy vice admiral serving his second term in the U.S. House. But, he added, "this is an issue for New York to resolve as long as it respects those constitutional rights. Let's stop playing politics with religion." The crowd of about 75 supporters applauded.

Sestak's Republican opponent, former Rep. Pat Toomey, says the Muslim group seeking to build the mosque and center should go elsewhere with the project out of sensitivity to the families of those killed at the trade center in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.

Robert Sklaroff, a physician and Republican activist from Elkins Park, questioned Sestak's judgment for speaking in 2007 to a Council on American-Islamic Relations dinner and said that the imam behind the mosque proposal had made anti-American statements on CBS's 60 Minutes.

"Look," Bloomberg said, "I would suggest you go from here directly to the library, get a copy of the Bill of Rights, and you'll realize that everybody has a right to say what they want to say. I happen to believe that that is the most important right that we have - the right to say what we want to say, which includes pray to whomever we want, in any place we want, in any manner we want."

Read the full story at the newspaper's website.

Bottom line: Joe Sestak is out-of-touch with the majority of Pennsylvania residents on almost every issue, including the controversial mosque.

Newspaper: Freebies for state lawmakers remain a problem

Pennsylvania legislators, already among the highest paid in the nation, are used to getting lots of free goodies from lobbyists and institutions looking for taxpayer dollars.

It's not a good practice, argues The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

From a recent editorial:
"It's a nice job if you can get it" ought to be the official motto of the Pennsylvania General Assembly. Although the gravy train has slowed down since 2005 when public revulsion greeted lawmakers who had given themselves a big pay raise in a late-night vote, the freebies have not dried up.

That is depressingly clear from filings with the state Ethics Commission. As reported by the Post-Gazette's Tracie Mauriello on Sunday, 38 of the state's 253 legislators shared in at least $67,000 worth of goodies last year.

That doesn't include more than $18,000 in food and rental facilities for events hosted by lawmakers for constituents. And it doesn't include tangible gifts of less than $250, the overly generous threshold in the law above which filings on spending must be made.

In many ways, what legislators do receive is the same old, same old -- among the gifts reported were tickets to the Super Bowl, concerts and ball games, travel expenses, even yacht club memberships. The conflict of interest and the associated whiff of impropriety that comes with such freebies is reason enough to stop the gravy train dead in its tracks. For example, Verizon Wireless is not a charity, and taxpayers can fairly wonder what it got for the $9,786 worth of gifts, travel and hospitality spent on state officials and their families last year.

Poll: Rendell-fatigue is killing Onorato

After eight years of broken promises under Democratic Gov. Ed Rendell, Pennsylvania voters are looking for a change. That does not bode well for Dan Onorato, the Democratic nominee for governor who is campaigning on a platform to continue the failed Rendell policies.

This could explain why Onorato continues to trail Republican Tom Corbett despite a lackluster campaign by the Republican attorney general.

From Susquehanna Polling & Research:

Our latest poll in the governor’s race earlier this summer shows Attorney General Tom Corbett with a 10-point, 43% to 33% lead over Allegheny County Executive Dan Onorato; 24% of voters were undecided at the time the survey was taken (June 3-7). For all intents and purposes, Corbett’s lead is wide and deep and he leads in nearly all regions of the state.

For instance, Corbett leads Onorato by a 51/25 margin in the Northwest/Erie region, a 53/21 margin in the conservative or rural “T” region which includes most of Central PA, a 51/27 margin in the South Central or Harrisburg area, and leads by a 50/34 margin in the Southwest/Pittsburgh media market surrounding Allegheny County. Corbett even holds a narrow 43/41 lead in Allegheny County where Onorato serves as the county’s top elected official, and even leads Onorato 33/31 in the Democratic-leaning, vote-rich suburbs of Philadelphia, and the Northeast/Wilkes-Barre/Scranton market by a 50/33 margin. Onorato leads only in Philadelphia, a city that has become so Democrat that there are only three remaining Republican Members of the state legislature representing parts of the city, now a 27-member delegation.

So the question is: Why is Corbett up by so much, so early in the race? The truth is that Corbett has three things going for him this year that all make him the odds-on favorite. Number one is the fact that the political environment has shifted in his favor. Truth be told, Republican voters have the enthusiasm this year, their base is more energized, and polls show that Republican candidates will benefit from the top of the ticket down to the bottom because they happen to be the political party out of power at a time when the economy is still wallowing in recession, one that national polls show most voters still believe we have not yet hit rock bottom on. These political winds now blowing Republican are a huge headwind in Onorato’s face.

The number two reason Corbett leads is that Pennsylvania has a history since the 1950’s of alternating between 8 years of Republican governors and 8 years of Democratic governors. From eight years of Democrat Milton Shapp, to 8 years of Republican Dick Thornburgh, to 8 years of Democrat Robert Casey, to 8 years of Republican Tom Ridge, and back to 8 years of Ed Rendell. It’s now the Republican’s turn, and Tom Corbett’s simply at the right place in history.

The third and most important reason Corbett leads is not because voters are necessarily rejecting Dan Onorato’s brand of politics. In fact, Dan Onorato proved with his convincing primary win in May that he is articulate, well-versed on the issues, and has a vision for the state with the CEO-type credentials most voters would probably find attractive, all things being equal. But all things are not equal when it comes to politics and campaigns. And the polling is showing more and more lately that to most voters, a vote for Onorato is a vote for a continuation of the Ed Rendell agenda, something most voters are dead set against.

More specifically, Rendell’s average job approval score is a staggering low of 24% in 62 of the state’s 67 counties, while an average of 66% disapprove of his job performance. Only in the remaining counties of Philadelphia and its four suburban extensions (Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery) do voters still give the former Philadelphia mayor and current governor a positive rating. Moreover, the intensity of voters’ feelings against Rendell is quite sobering. When asked if they have a favorable or unfavorable opinion of the governor, by a near 3:1 margin voters say their opinion is largely unfavorable, and by a 2:1 margin the percent who say “very” unfavorable is usually twice as high as those with a “very” favorable opinion. In some cases, the percent who have very unfavorable opinions of Rendell reaches forty percent or higher, even in districts in the west that register two-to-one Democrat or more in voter registration.

Pennsylvania Senate: Toomey 46%, Sestak 37%

Republican Pat Toomey continues to lead liberal Democrat Joe Sestak in the race to replace U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter.

From Rasmussen Reports:

A statewide telephone survey of Likely Voters in Pennsylvania shows Republican Pat Toomey picking up 46% support, while his Democratic opponent Joe Sestak earns the vote from 37%. Five percent (5%) prefer a different candidate, and 12% are undecided.

In every survey conducted this year, Toomey's support has stayed in the range of 42% to 47% of the vote. Aside from a brief surge in support following his mid-May primary victory over incumbent Senator Arlen Specter, Sestak's support has fallen in a narrow 36% to 40% range since tracking began in February.

Last month, Toomey led Sestak 45% to 39%.

Newspaper: President Obama's Mosquerade

Investor's Business Daily puts the Ground Zero mosque controversy into proper perspective in an editorial, pointing out how tone-deaf Barack Obama is to the sensitivities of the American people.

Mahmoud al-Zahar and Feisal Abdul Rauf may want to build everywhere, but the American people are saying not just anywhere. The American people who put you in the White House are just saying not this mosque, not near Ground Zero, and not now.

If you can't understand why, Mr. President, we have a problem. In fact, the mosque is a mere 600 feet from Ground Zero, so close that the landing gear from one of the 9/11 planes crashed into a building on the proposed site.

The mosque at Ground Zero is not about outreach. Evidently President Obama and New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg are not aware of why the name Cordoba House was picked. It is named after the bloody Muslim conquest of Cordoba, Spain, in 711. It will be seen as another Islamic victory.

Is this mosque going to be a bastion of religious tolerance? Its Imam Rauf is a man who has said he has no use for religious dialogue and believes 9/11 was America's fault.

In a "60 Minutes" interview that aired Sept. 30, 2001, he said: "I wouldn't say that the United States deserved what happened, but United States policies were an accessory to the crime that happened."
