Newspaper: Keeping voters in dark is what PA legislators do best

From an editorial in today's edition of The Mercury:
Knowledge is power, which is why members of the General Assembly are so assiduous in their attempts to keep the voters of Pennsylvania in the dark.

Take the use of state-owned cars.

Democracy Rising Pennsylvania, a citizens' watchdog organization, reports that the state Senate recently voted 50-0 on a bill that would require the Department of General Services to maintain an Internet directory of state vehicles used by employees.

The measure also specified that the cars must have "official use" license plates.

A Republican state senator from Lebanon County had introduced this bill, which limits state employees who use a state vehicle for their work from also using it for personal business, in the 2007-08 session.

It went nowhere.
