Atheists object to Chester County holiday displays

There's just no pleasing these atheists. The Freethought Society of Greater Philadelphia tried for years to ban holiday displays in front of the Chester County Courthouse.

That tactic hasn't worked but all the bitching led the Chester County Board of Commissioners to consider placing restrictions on the displays.

The atheists say the rules restrict their ability to put up their own display (which I presume tells people that there's no such thing as Santa Claus, etc.)

Chester County now limits the number of displays and their size. The atheists are not happy, according to The West Chester Daily Local News.

Margaret Downey, the group's president, had this to say to the commissioners on Tuesday, according to the newspaper:

"Where does that allow for a future Kwanza display, Hindu symbols, a Buddhist display and a Muslim symbol?" she asked the commissioners. Her organization "is concerned that too many citizens will be left out altogether. Surely the commissioners agree that three displays could not possibly represent all minorities and all religions."

The commissioners will discuss the matter Thursday. Read the full story at the newspaper's Web site.
