It's a small world

Here's a bit of interesting news.

Halfway around the world, a cousin I've never met launched a blog today.

The cousin, Michalis Firillas (he spells his name differently), works for a daily newspaper in Israel.

What are the odds that two people from the same family originating on the tiny island of Cyprus would end up working for newspapers in two different countries and meet through a blog?

Michalis Firillas is "a historian by training, and spent what some would describe as 'too long' in universities," according to his blog profile.

Firillas works for Haaretz, a daily newspaper in Israel, as a staff writer and commentator on international affairs.

Worldview is "A blog on international affairs, the Middle East, and a few other things its author has ideas about. An experiment, at this stage, it is meant to answer a craving for writing and expressing views, while keeping it under 1,000 words."

Check out my cousin's blog at Worldview.

He also wrote this recent commentary on the election results in Cyprus.
