The Mercury weighs in on its editorial page today on the news that it costs Pennsylvania taxpayers $308 million a year to support the state Legislature.
"This audit report offers a telling reminder of the price we pay for inefficiency in Harrisburg," the newspaper says.
The paper also questions why the political class is hording $211 million in slush accounts when so many Pennsylvania residents are struggling to make ends meet.
"At a time when families are trying to stretch resources to put away a few dollars for retirement, these elected officials keep $211 million in the bank for a rainy day."
