'The Charge of the Light Brigade'

On Dec. 9, 1854, Alfred, Lord Tennyson's "The Charge of the Light Brigade" was published in England. The poem memorializes events in the Battle of Balaclava, October 25, 1854, during the Crimean War. British light cavalry charged over open terrain against heavily-fortified Russian forces.
The Charge Of The Light Brigade
by Alfred, Lord Tennyson
Half a league half a league,
Half a league onward,
All in the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred:
'Forward, the Light Brigade!
Charge for the guns' he said:
Into the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.
'Forward, the Light Brigade!'
Was there a man dismay'd ?
Not tho' the soldier knew
Some one had blunder'd:
Theirs not to make reply,
Theirs not to reason why,
Theirs but to do & die,
Into the valley of Death
Rode the six hundred.
Cannon to right of them,
Cannon to left of them,
Cannon in front of them
Volley'd & thunder'd;
Storm'd at with shot and shell,
Boldly they rode and well,
Into the jaws of Death,
Into the mouth of Hell
Rode the six hundred.
Flash'd all their sabres bare,
Flash'd as they turn'd in air
Sabring the gunners there,
Charging an army while
All the world wonder'd:
Plunged in the battery-smoke
Right thro' the line they broke;
Cossack & Russian
Reel'd from the sabre-stroke,
Shatter'd & sunder'd.
Then they rode back, but not
Not the six hundred.
Cannon to right of them,
Cannon to left of them,
Cannon behind them
Volley'd and thunder'd;
Storm'd at with shot and shell,
While horse & hero fell,
They that had fought so well
Came thro' the jaws of Death,
Back from the mouth of Hell,
All that was left of them,
Left of six hundred.
When can their glory fade?
O the wild charge they made!
All the world wonder'd.
Honour the charge they made!
Honour the Light Brigade,
Noble six hundred!

Elites Should Blame Selves, Not Obama, for Believing His Messianic Pretensions
Columnist David Limbaugh has some thoughts on the far left elites who put their faith in Barack Obama only to have those hopes crushed by a typical politician. From his latest column:
The elites' uniform disenchantment with Obama says much more about them than it does him, namely that they are hopelessly lost in the intoxication of their intellectual elitism and the mire of their crippling worldview and that they didn't have a clue about Obama when they formed their little cult and still don't as they stumble upon, kicking and screaming, his abundant failings.Read the full column at the link below:

Columnist: Obama Eats Crow

Obama Eats Crow - HUMAN EVENTS
Make no mistake about it, Obama's announcement that he'll keep all tax rates at the current levels is a huge victory for the GOP. Here's a man who banked his presidential run on rescinding "tax cuts for the rich." Far from a throwaway line on the campaign trail, it was Barack's central talking point.
For him, spiking taxes on the "wealthy" wasn't just political positioning. It was deeply ideological, part of his core philosophy. Here's a man who has lamented that the Supreme Court never codified "redistribution of wealth" in our legal code, and the same dude who made one Ohio plumber a household name by telling him how advantageous it was to "spread the wealth around."
Barack, the most anti-capitalist President in modern time, was humiliated, both personally and publically, by being forced into backing a two-year extension of the tax cuts he loathes. Obama ate a capitalist sandwich, and you know he hated every bite of it.

Greek Orthodox Church Renews Fight Over Ground Zero Site
From a story by Josh Barbanel in The Wall Street Journal:
The leaders of St. Nicholas Church, the small whitewashed Greek Orthodox Church destroyed by falling debris on Sept. 11, 2001, have begun legal action against the Port Authority demanding that the church be rebuilt under the terms of a deal worked out several years ago.Read the full story at the newspaper's website.
A claim filed against the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey by church leaders and the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America on Monday accused the agency, which is overseeing Ground Zero's rebuilding, of engaging in "arrogance, bad faith and fraudulent conduct" and "shabby and unlawful treatment."
Under state law, the church is required to file a notice of claim against the Port Authority for some of its claims, and wait 60 days before it can go to court, according to Mark. G. Cunha, a lawyer for the church.

Obama Unravels …
National Review Online's Jim Geraghty doesn't think much of Barack Obama's ability to speak coherently without his TelePrompter."Watching Barack Obama in a press conference discussing the tax deal, it feels like we’re watching his presidency lose all coherence," Geraghty writes.
And can anyone explain how Obama can justify calling Republicans "hostage takers" when all they did was prevent the largest tax hike in U.S. history from kicking in Jan. 1?

Cuckoo In Cancun
The global warming crowd may be suffering from hypothermia. From Investor's Business Daily:
Still think those who continue to push the idea of man-made climate change are well-grounded and rational? Think again.Read the full editorial at the link below:
Consider Christiana Figueres, executive secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. She opened the U.N's global warming conference last week with a prayer to Ixchel, the Mayan goddess of the moon.
This mythological supreme being of fertility is supposed to be good for sending rain for crops. Maybe that's the sort of blessing Figueres had in mind when, from Cancun's — no joke — Moon Palace, she called Ixchel "the goddess of reason, creativity and weaving" and hoped delegates would be inspired by her.
And did we mention that the multitasking Ixchel is also some kind of jaguar? Given her many roles, is it really reasonable to ask her to also save the planet from global warming?
But then if she did that, the alarmists wouldn't have to take junkets to balmy resorts in December to save the world from mankind.

Columnist: No more stealth pay raises
From a new column by Brad Bumsted on the "stealth" pay raise Pennsylvania politicians get every year.
Many Pennsylvanians haven't seen a raise in years. Others can't find jobs. Seniors haven't had a Social Security increase in two years.Read the full column at The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review website.
A COLA "is an annual stealth pay raise, which has no relation to merit or quality of work product," said Eric Epstein, of Harrisburg, an opponent of the 2005 raise.
If legislators want a raise they should have to vote on it. It would be difficult for years, given the 2005 pay fiasco. But if a few years from now they want a raise? Justify it. Hold public hearings. Put your name behind it and pay the consequences or not.
It then effectively would be up to voters to approve the raise, by casting a vote for or against the legislator. It's what a republic is all about.

'Life is like a box of chocolates ...'

"Life is like a box of chocolates... you never know what you're gonna get." - Forrest Gump
I often think of Forrest Gump when I see a picture of Nancy Pelosi.
What's really happening in the photo above: Sen. Arlen Specter, D-Pa., presented a giant Hershey's chocolate bar, with Independence Hall in relief, to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi this afternoon to fulfill their NLCS wager. If you'll recall, the San Francisco Giants defeated the Philadelphia Phillies.
Newspaper: Thorns to greedy PA judges
From the editorial pages of The Pottstown Mercury:
THORNS to Pennsylvania judges for disregarding the tax burden on Pennsylvania residents by leasing luxury automobiles including Cadillacs, Mercedes and high-end SUVs. The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported Sunday that 25 jurists in the state lease cars under a provision that reimburses them up to $600 a month; 13 opt not to lease vehicles. The state began paying for cars for appellate judges in 1990, and the practice continues despite other elected and appointed state officials who use cheaper fleet vehicles to keep costs down. The state's top judges are among the nation's highest paid. Some make in excess of $175,000 a year, yet lease high-end vehicles at taxpayer expense. Among the judges' cars are $568 a month for a 2010 Cadillac driven by Chief Justice Ronald Castille and $450 a month for a 2010 Mercedes Benz driven by Superior Court Judge Sallie Updyke Mundy. Supreme Court Justice Max Baer leases a 2010 GMC Acadia from his brother's Washington dealership for $510 a month. One person quoted in the news article called it symbolic of a "culture of arrogance." Sound like Harrisburg?Roses to state rep for helping remodel Boyertown office - pottsmerc.com
