Toomey praises Senate confirmation of PA judicial nominees

Sen. Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) praised the U.S. Senate's confirmation of Mark Hornak to be a U.S. District judge for the Western District of Pennsylvania and Robert Mariani to be a U.S. District judge for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.

The Senate voted 82-17 Wednesday to confirm Mariani. Hornak was confirmed by unanimous consent.

From a press release issued by Toomey's office:
"Earlier this year, I had the opportunity to meet separately with both Mr. Hornak and Mr. Mariani, and I am very confident of their intellect, their experience, their integrity, temperament, commitment to public service and to their understanding of the proper role of a judge."

"Mark Hornak has been a careful student of the law throughout his career and has demonstrated an intellectual curiosity and a commitment to integrity, which I know will serve him well. Robert Mariani's diligence, professionalism and knowledge of the law will be an asset to the bench. I believe that these character traits and this range of experience will enable them to effectively serve the people of Pennsylvania."

The Senate voted Monday to confirm Cathy Bissoon as a U.S. District judge for the Western District of Pennsylvania.

Sen. Toomey submitted blue slips to the Senate Judiciary Committee to approve Hornak, Mariani and Bissoon in June, signaling the senator's support and allowing the Judiciary Committee to move forward with judicial hearings and the confirmation process.

Sen. Toomey spoke in support of the three judicial nominees at their July Senate Judiciary Committee confirmation hearing as well as on the Senate floor on Monday.
