Rabbis with Guns

Hundreds of press releases cross my desk every week. Most of them never see the light of day at the newspaper I work for or on my blogs. But this one caught my attention.

This comes from the International Security Coalition of Clergy of the not for profit Tzedek Task Force on Counter Terrorism with the caption: Come pray with us and feel safe

I don't think this is a joke.
L-R Rabbi David Algaze, spiritual leader of Havurat Israel Synagogue Queens and CSA student Pastor Ken Pagano, spiritual leader Temple Beth El Church Kentucky, former USA marine, NRA Handgun Instructor Rabbinic Intern Shimon Rosenberg of Nefesh Breeah Synagogue NJ/PA, electronic security expert/7th Degree Black Belt David Goldenberg, Judaica Student - Westchester county- former NYC police/weapons trainer/martial arts instructor Rabbi Gary Moskowitz, Rabbinic Faculty Mishpat Tzedek Seminary, former NYC Police Officer/Trainer and in Israel Counter terror trainer, Combat Shooting and Apprehension founder/7th Deg. Black Belt Karate/Ju-Jitsu Rev. Dr. Michael Willet (not visible in photo) well known lecturer, 10th Degree Black Belt and Security expert

There is a clear a present danger emanating from extremist Muslim Jihads.

Clergy must protect their flock from both spiritual and mortal dangers

This group of religious leaders is the sheepdogs and shepherds for the sheep they lead.

This group is going through our 100-hour Combat Shooting and Apprehension program and then going on to become instructors with another 100-hour instructor's course.

I love this! We should certainly expect to be secure in worship. With all these threats surrounding us it only makes sense to be prepared. What if there was someone trained at the Seattle Jewish federation when the defenseless women were gunned down? One Jewish woman might still be alive. We can't keep our heads in the sand and hope that others will look after us.
