PA State Police Crime Statistics for 2008

Violent crimes dropped 1 percent in 2009, but property crimes increase by 2.8 percent, according to the latest statistics released by the Pennsylvania State Police.

The breakdown of reported Crime Index offenses for 2008 is as follows:
* Murders decreased 4.6 percent from 732 to 698;
* Forcible rapes increased 1.6 percent to 3,440;
* Robberies declined 2.5 percent to 18,751
* Aggravated assaults dropped 0.2 percent to 27,555;
* Burglaries jumped 5.5 percent to 57,879;
* Larcenies/thefts rose 4.4 percent to 214,759;
* Motor-vehicle thefts fell 14.8 percent to 22,243, and
* Arsons were down 10 percent to 2,162.
