Newspaper exposes 'McCall's deceit'

Pennsylvania Speaker of the House Keith McCall is having a difficult time defending his recent move to roll back the reforms enacted by the House under his predecessor, so he decides to attack the messenger.

In a letter responding to an editorial in the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Democrat McCall claims the newspaper (along with every other newspaper in the state, the Associated Press, Republican House members and reform activists) got it all wrong when the House took a party-line vote to repeal rules that promoted openness and accountability.

McCall's letter prompted the Tribune-Review to write another editorial, titled "McCall's deceit."

From the editorial:
Keith McCall, thinking himself a clever dick, invoked the old Ronald Reagan phrase, "Trust, but verify," in his retort to us. Well, Mr. Speaker, your House has verified what we said you and your fellow legislative thugs were considering. And given the thrust of your complaint -- and the depth of your conceit -- it's pretty clear that the public cannot trust what you say.
