Beware of this 'family movie' from Hollywood liberals

One of my regular readers passed this information on to me today. I'm sure this movie will be marketed as a holiday film for the entire family, but make no mistake about it. This is not "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe."

Here's the e-mail:

"THE GOLDEN COMPASS," a new movie targeted at children, will be released Dec. 7, 2007. This movie is based on a the first book of a trilogy by atheist Philip Pullman. In the final book a boy and girl kill God so they can do as they please. Pullman left little doubt about his intentions when he said in a 2003 interview that "My books are about killing God." The movie is a watered-down version of the first book and is designed to be very attractive in the hope unsuspecting parents will take their children to see the the movie and that the children will want the books for Christmas. The movie has a well known cast, including Nicole Kidman, Kevin Bacon and Sam Elliott. It will probably be advertised extensively, so it is crucial that we get the word out to warn parents to avoid this movie. (I don't know Sam Elliott's political leanings, but Bacon and Kidman are liberal activists, like 99 percent of Hollywood.)

You can research this for yourself. Start with this article on Snopes.com

Hi Tony,
I appreciate your diligence in bringing attention to the message of this film. I question the conclusion, however. As a believer, I think it will be beneficial for me to view this movie with a critical eye so that I can a) better dialog with atheists about it and b) teach my children and their friends how to think critically about the world around them. Did you consider this approach?

Glenn is giving Hollywood liberals way too much credit here. They're not interested in a dialogue. The Left Coast has a long history of anti-Christian "entertainment." It's OK to make fun of Christians in movies and to make anti-Christian and anti-God films.

While not for kids, go see "Bella" instead. Somehow, an unabashedly pro-life movie got made in Hollywood and got lauded at those liberal-loving film festivals.

You misunderstand me. I'm not speaking of Hollywood specifically. I'm speaking of atheists, including your neighbors.

Hi Tony,
I think you misunderstood me. I am not speaking of Hollywood, specifically, but of our atheist neighbors and of our innocent children. I do understand your point and I hope that Christian's don't mindlessly take their families to see this. It would be better not to go at all than to go without a critical eye.
