Playing the 'Age Card' could backfire on Democrats

Some potential good news for Sen. John McCain, who at 71, is the oldest person ever to seek the presidency.

On June 3, Sen. Frank Lautenberg, the third oldest member of the U.S. Senate, trounced a much younger opponent in the state's Democratic primary.

Lautenberg, 84, defeated NJ Congressman Rob Andrews, 50, by a nearly 2-1 margin to win his party nomination for a chance to win another six-year term in the Senate.

New Jersey voters didn't care about Lautenberg's age even though Andrews made Lautenberg's age (and Lautenberg's hypocrisy over age) a campaign issues. (Lautenberg would be 91 by the time his term ends if he prevails in November.)

So let this be a warning to Barack Obama, one of the youngest men ever to seek the presidency at age 46. There's a lot of old people who vote in this country. And they don't take kindly to you young whipper-snappers making fun of their age.
