Newspaper: Taxpayer rally sends an urgent message

The Save Our Homes Rally Monday was the best attended and most energetic event Harrisburg has seen in years. Hundreds of everyday Pennsylvanians gathered on the steps of the Capitol Rotunda to demand an end to school property taxes.

Whether their elected representatives heard the message will depend on how many more Pennsylvania homeowners take up the cause.

This is an election year for the Pennsylvania Legislature. If your representative won't support the elimination of school property taxes, it's time to elect someone else.

From an editorial in today's edition of The Mercury:
Supporters of HB 1275 have said the best chance for the proposal is to be included as a budget amendment with details ironed out during the next few weeks.

The budget deadline of June 30, however, is fast approaching, and legislative observers are saying the bipartisanship in Harrisburg is worse than ever.

State Rep. Sam Rohrer said in an earlier interview that the difference between this year and other years is that people are out of money, not just running out of money.

This sense of urgency was conveyed by the hundreds of people at the Capitol,

The rally, "Save Our Homes," told a serious message. Taxpayers are hoping this is the year legislators get it.
