'Fundraising operatives' on county payroll?

Montgomery County Republican Party Chairman Bob Kerns charges that Democratic county Controller Diane Morgan Monday has been stuffing her office with Democratic "fundraising operatives."

It's the latest of several allegations of Democratic Party cronyism since the Dems won five county row offices and took control of county government when GOP turncoat Jim Matthews made a secret deal with Democratic county commissioner Joe Hoeffel to share control of county government.

Kerns said the county controller should be a watchdog for taxpayers, not a lapdog for the Democratic Party.

"By hiring partisan individuals who are actively engaged in raising money for political purposes, the controller undermines the unique trust that is required for her position," Kerns said in a written statement. "She (Morgan) must end the patronage and political activity that dominates her staffing decisions since taking office just six months ago."
