Eichelberger calls for immediate end of legislative bonuses

If the arrest of 12 people connected to the Democratic caucus in the state House of Representatives isn't enough to force the Legislature to do away with bonuses, there's no hope of ever reforming the cesspool that is Harrisburg.

State Sen. John Eichelberger wants House Democrats to stop stalling on legislation he introduced last year to ban all bonuses for legislative employees, according to the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

Senate Bill 986 would do away with the bonus system that snared a dozen top Democratic officials.

"The people of Pennsylvania expect to have this [bonus] issue addressed in law, not by the often-unkept promises of lawmakers who claim that it will never happen again," Eichelberger, a freshman who was elected on a reform platform, told the newspaper.

The lack of action by Democratic House leaders "under the current circumstances is truly unbelievable," Eichelberger told the Post-Gazette.
