Chester County official heads regional planning group

Chester County Commissioner Carol Aichele was recently elected board chairwoman of the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission.

Aichele, who is chairwoman of the three-member Chester County Board of Commissioners, said she will use her new position to promoted regional cooperation.

"The DVRPC is an outstanding regional organization that plays a vital role in the future of Chester County and our neighbors," Aichele said in a press release. "I’m looking forward to taking a leadership role. More than ever, we need a comprehensive plan with clear priorities and established funding sources. I'm also looking forward to working with other Delaware Valley leaders to further a regional focus that will benefit all of us."

Aichele, a Republican, said she will work in a nonpartisan basis with elected officials, appointees and staff to "resolve the difficult issues we all face here in the Delaware Valley. The transit and transportation picture we see is not a pretty one. The work the DVRPC Board does is important and the efforts of all its members directly affect the lives of the people we serve."

Aichele previously served as vice chairwoman and treasurer of the DVRPC board.

A priority, she said, will be transportation planning.

"Too many important projects have been deferred because of inadequate funding," Aichele said.

Montgomery County Commissioner Joseph M. Hoeffel, a Democrat, was elected secretary of the 18-member DVRPC board at its recent reorganization meeting.

Established in 1965, the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission provides comprehensive, coordinated planning for the orderly growth and development of the bi-state region (Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties in Pennsylvania; and Burlington, Camden, Gloucester and Mercer in New Jersey.)
