'Another hidden tax hike'

I like this Letter to the Editor originally published in The West Chester Daily Local News.

The Chester County resident who wrote it argues that Act 44 (Gov. Rendell's much-hyped transportation funding scheme) is basically a sneaky way to raise taxes on motorists who drive the Pennsylvania Turnpike so Rendell can funnel more money into his pet project: mass transit.
Act 44 just another hidden tax hike

Voters wake up! For the latest example of what happens from the inbreeding of our political class, look at Act 44. Pennsylvania Turnpike tolls are "required" to rise 25 percent to fund non-turnpike projects.

For many of us in southeastern Pennsylvania who must rely upon the turnpike for our east-west transportation, this is just another onerous hidden tax increase. A legitimate argument can be made that user fees are one of the most fair forms of taxation. When they become a slush fund for non-related projects, they become just another political money grab.

When will you say "enough"!
