Pure fiction: Rendell on the budget

Gov. Rendell claims his 2008-09 budget didn't start heading south until September 2008. He's lying.

He knew before he signed the budget in July 2008 that the state would end up with huge deficits. The state was already taking in less revenue than expenditures before the start of the current fiscal year.

To claim the national recession led to the state's $3 billion deficit is a boldface lie. It was runway spending by Rendell that put the state in the current fiscal crisis.
