Survey: Severe recession to extend through mid-2009

25 leading economists who participated in a new survey say the current recession will be one of the longest and most painful in U.S. history. But there is light at the end of the tunnel (and it's not an oncoming train.) The economists predict a recovery beginning in the third quarter of 2009.

From the survey: "Key underpinnings of the recovery in the second half of 2009 will be federal economic stimulus and resolution of the financial crisis."

Considering how well Congress and other Washington officials have handled the economic crisis so far, maybe we should all just lie on the tracks and wait for the train.
