'The Stupid Party'

Richard Viguerie has some thoughts on the growing Gwen Ifill controversy, calling it an "obvious conflict of interest," but Viguerie reserves most of the criticism toward the Republican Party for signing off on Ifill as moderator of the vice presidential debate.

From a written statement issued by the chairman of ConservativeHQ.com:
"Imagine if one of the officials at Super Bowl earlier this year had had a book coming out on Super Bowl Sunday entitled Dynasty: The Age of the New England Patriots. Can you imagine the New York Giants agreeing to that? But then, the New York Giants are a lot smarter than Republicans."
While it doesn't excuse Ifill's bias, Viguerie says the Republican Party knew on July 21 that Ifill was planning to release a pro-Obama book, but did not object when the debate moderators were announced on Aug. 5.

"How could the negotiators have signed off on a liberal moderator who has a book coming out on Inauguration Day heralding the 'Age of Obama'?" Viguerie asks.
