Rendell fights effort to end spot tax reassessments

What's this? Gov. Ed Rendell is battling an effort by the Pennsylvania Legislature to end the practice of spot reassessments that send property tax bills skyrocketing?

But I thought Rendell was a friend of the taxpayers. Look what he's done over the past six years to bring down property taxes. Oh, yeah. He hasn't done anything. Property taxes in Pennsylvania are among the highest in the nation and have risen every year since Rendell became governor.

The House and Senate are attempting to help property owners by enacting a ban on spot reassessments favored by school boards and municipalities. Rendell, once again, is on the side of higher taxes.

Make sure your state legislator supports Senate Bill 1258. (Rendell vetoed two bills that the Legislature passed overwhelmingly in the spring, but with most lawmakers facing voters on Nov. 4, this is your chance to send a message to Rendell: No more tax hikes. The Legislature could pass both bills with veto-proof margins.)
