Joe McCain stumps for brother in Berks County

John McCain's younger brother, Joe, was the featured speaker at the annual fall dinner sponsored by the Berks County Republican Committee.

More than 200 people attended the event and heard Joe McCain, a U.S. Navy veteran, ask the crowd to support his brother's bid for president.

From the article by reporter Mary Young:
Joe is proud of his brother, not just as a presidential candidate, but as a man.

He spoke of John's decision when he was a prisoner of war in Vietnam to turn down his captors' offer to release him. John felt he had an obligation to his country and his fellow prisoners to stay, Joe said.

"This is a guy that made a decision outside of the press, outside of the pollsters, a private decision not to get out of all that loneliness and pain," he said.

According to Joe, the ability to make tough decisions makes for a good president. "To me all the other issues are secondary to what a president really needs," he said. "A president doesn't legislate. What he does is make important decisions at important times."
