Dems want U.S. to remain dependent on foreign oil

The Letter to the Editor below was originally published in The Mercury. I like what the writer has to say.
Democratic plan is not working

On April 24, 2006, Nancy Pelosi said, "Democrats have a commonsense plan to help bring down skyrocketing gas prices." America rewarded the Democratic Party with a majority in the U.S. Congress and the U.S. Senate.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi is now rewarding America's confidence in the Democratic Party by blocking offshore drilling, drilling in ANWR, development of nuclear power and clean coal technology, and construction of new oil refineries. The result is increasing gasoline prices and dependence on foreign oil.

What is the Democrats' plan? Conservation, wind and solar power, and taxes on the oil companies. Conservation has been the centerpiece of our energy plan since the 1970s and the majority of gains have already been realized. Also don't forget to drive less, freeze during the winter, and swelter during the summer. And don't forget that Obama reminded us to inflate our tires properly and take our cars for regular tuneups to save millions of barrels of oil - did he really graduate from Harvard? In addition, despite huge investments, wind power has failed to meet expectations in Denmark, solar power is decades away, and Obama's new taxes on electric bills and windfall profits, are not going to produce any energy.

A few days ago, Pelosi said, "I'm trying to save the planet." Pelosi's arrogance is matched only by her utter incompetence. The Democrat plan guarantees that we will remain dependent on foreign oil and, it appears, that the intent of the Democrat plan is for us to remain dependent on foreign oil.
