Poll: 64% of Americans object to Letterman joke about Palin's daughter

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that nearly two-thirds of American adults (64%) believe it's inappropriate for comedians like David Letterman to joke about the children of public figures.

The poll was conducted after Letterman made a crude joke at the expense of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's 14-year-old daughter. Letter man first said he didn't realize how old the girl was, then he said he meant to make fun of Palin's 18-year-old daughter, then made a half-hearted apology.

The same poll found that only 16% thought Letterman's apology was sincere.

The furor over the joke has prompted a campaign to get Letterman fired from his late-night CBS show. Read more at www.firedavidletterman.com
