Despite the lack of big-name stars and small advertising budget, 'The Hangover' earned an estimated $33.4 million over the June 12-14 weekend, bringing its two-week total to $105 million!
Meanwhile, the Disney/Pixar animated offering of "Up" could end up one of the studio's biggest box-office hits. The film has grossed $187 million in just three weeks and should become the second 2009 release to top $200 million next weekend, joining "Star Trek."
The much-hyped "The Taking of Pelham 123" finished a disappointing third, earning just $25 million. It's an indication that Denzel Washington and John Travolta are no longer the box-office draws they were just a few years ago.
Speaking of underachievers, "Land of the Lost" will end up one of the biggest flops of 2009, earning just $35 million in its first two weeks. It won't come close to earning back its $100 million production costs.
Here's this week's Top 5 films, according to studio estimates. The official numbers will be released Monday evening at BoxOfficeMojo.com.
