Obama on his way to 270 electoral votes

As of 9:30 p.m., The Associated Press is reporting that Barack Obama has secured 175 of the 270 electoral votes needed to win the White House. John McCain had 52, according to the news service.

The AP is projecting Obama the winner in the following states: Wisconsin, Michigan, New York, Rhode Island, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, New Hampshire, Vermont, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Maine, Massachusetts, Maryland and New Jersey, as well as the District of Columbia.

The AP projects McCain winning Arkansas, Kentucky, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Wyoming, Alabama and South Carolina.
