Argall possible replacement for Rhoades' Senate seat

The smoke still hasn't cleared from Tuesday's election but residents of the 29th state Senate District will soon have to go back to the polls to pick a new state senator.

The late Sen. James Rhoades won Tuesday's election, forcing a special election to be held within 60 days to pick his replacement.

Hank Clarke, proprietor of The Clarke Report, an excellent blog focusing on Schuylkill County politics, handicaps the likely Republican nominees for Rhoades seat.

At the top of the list is state Rep. David Argall, the No. 2 leader of the House Republican Caucus.

Argall is a proven vote-getter and Harrisburg insider who could step into the Senate without missing a beat. The other potential candidates are two women who have never run for office: Ali Rhoades-Hobbs, the daughter of the late senator, and Gretchen Sterns, an attorney.

I can't imagine Republican Party leaders going with either unknown when they have a seasoned politician in Argall. If he wants the nomination, Argall will get it.
