Another useless $1 coin on the way

I know a way we can save money. Eliminate the U.S. Mint. How many more useless dollar coins is the U.S. Mint planning to issue? Nobody wants to use dollar coins. Stop making them. And stop making pennies.

Tony,

I've long argued against making pennies, but have also argued in favor of dollar coins. I get 20 or so whenever I am in a bank - generally less than once a month - and use them whenever I can.

Dollar coins cost less and last longer than there paper bretheren.

So you're the one person in Pennsylvania who uses dollar coins. I can't argue with the fact that dollar coins cost less and last longer, but you can't deny that 99 percent of the U.S. population refuses to use them. Short of stopping to print new paper dollars, I don't see any other way to encourage people to use dollar coins.

Two things...

The conspiracy theorist in me is inclined to believe that the dollar coins, like the state quarters, were created to increase the hoarding of "real money", thus taking it out of circulation. What this does is lessen the debt, as these dollar coins, that cost a whopping pennies to make, is now a net profit for the Federal Reserve Bank.

Secondly, and on a lighter note, the the local adult entertainment industry will turn on it's heels if there are no "singles" left in circulation...How can an exotic dancer possibly stick coins in the waistband of her G-string for Pete' s sake!

I agree. It's like we can't be outdone with Canada and their 'loon' on this one. The one thing I did notice that even upsets me more is that they tried to hide In God We Trust. It's no longer on the face of the coin, it's on the side of the coin. One day soon, it probably won't be there at all.
