Rep. Kessler wastes taxpayer money

The letter to the editor below was originally published in The Mercury. It exposes the common practice of incumbents using taxpayer dollars to promote their re-election by appearing in "Public Service Announcements," where are no more than glorified campaign ads.
Kessler wastes our tax money

At what point do public service announcements in the form of television commercials, mailings, e-mail and phone calls become political advertising?

When does “walk around money” in the form of grants to local organizations become an attempt to buy votes?

In an election year, I realize this blatant use of taxpayer money is par for the course, but state Rep. David Kessler, D-130th Dist., has taken this practice to new heights or, should I say, lows.

I have seen Rep. Kessler on television in the last two weeks more than most actors and recently

I picked up a copy of a local newspaper and there he was again, handing out big cardboard checks to Exeter and Oley townships. By the way, isn’t Oley where Kessler is also a township supervisor?

Rep. Kessler owes it to all his constituents to explain how much his Public Service Announcements (PSAs) cost taxpayers. With all the money he spent on PSAs and “walk around money,” why didn’t he give us more in property tax relief?
