Fred Thompson gave the best speech of the night Tuesday to the delegates of the Republican National Convention, but Sen. Joe Lieberman had the most important role of the evening: To convince Democrats and independents that John McCain should be the next president.
Lieberman, not the greatest speaker in the world, did a great job with a sincere call for an end to partisanship.
Lieberman, who served with both McCain and Barack Obama in the Senate gave an eyewitness account of McCain's accomplishments and Obama's rhetoric.
