Should the chairman of the Montgomery County Board of Elections be predicting a Barack Obama victory in the county on Nov. 4?
Does Joe Hoeffel know for sure that Obama will win his county? Does have any inside information?
Hoeffel, a Democrat who was elected county commissioner last November, was appointed chairman of the Board of Elections with the help of renegade Republican Jim Matthews.
Hoeffel made some remarks at the Democratic National Convention that could be construed as guaranteeing an Obama victory in Montgomery County, according to PolitickerPA.com.
At what point does Hoeffel take off his partisan Democratic worker hat and put on his elected public official hat?
Montgomery County Republican Party Chairman Bob Kerns is calling for Hoeffel to step down as chairman of the Board of Elections.
Kerns told reporter Margaret Gibbons he believes it is inappropriate of Hoeffel to "guarantee an Obama win" and to proclaim that the GOP never again will have a majority of the voters in the county.
"Joe Hoeffel's rabid partisanship is unmatched in this county and it is wrong that he chairs our election board," Kerns told Gibbons.
"These are not the idle comments from an elected official; these are ominous remarks from the man who oversees elections in Montgomery County," Kerns said. "Voters of all parties should be leery of such bombast from someone who has an obligation to conduct fair and scandal-free elections."
Hoeffel does not deny making the remarks at the DNC but has no intention of stepping down, Gibbons reports.
