State Senate candidate defends private property rights

Steve Kantrowitz, the Republican candidate for 19th State Senate District, spoke to a group of Chester County residents about eminent domain concerns.

"Private property rights are one of the things that made this country great," Kantrowitz told the residents, according to a story in The Phoenix. "I'm especially concerned that we may be talking about church property."

"There are times when taking property can be justified — in the one place necessary for a bridge, for example — but what I'd like to see are more stringent limits to eminent domain power. We should have maximum protection of private property. Our legislature should look at that," Kantrowitz told the audience, according to the newspaper.

Kantrowitz, an attorney and retired Navy rear admiral, is attempting to unseat Sen. Andy Dinniman, a Democrat who is serving his second year in the state Senate.
