Christmas in March?

From the editorial page of The Pottstown Mercury:
THORNS to Phoenixville for leaving the borough holliday tree around to collect debris, This is the first week of March and the holiday tree is still standing in Renaissance Park. The borough has a bad habit of leaving the holiday tree up long after the holiday season has ended. Granted that there have been several snowstorms in February, but there was the entire month of January that was relatively snow-free. Underneath the tree is a collection of debris and trash that blows through the area. Several broken ornaments that survived the blizzards are still hanging. The tree also blocks the mural often cited by Phoenixville supporters as a centerpiece. Time to get the tree down.

THORNS to Pottstown, too, for the holiday decorations that remain on light posts throughout the downtown. True, the lighted snowflakes were picturesque covered in the real stuff from recent snowfalls, but seeing lit holiday decorations once March arrives sends the wrong message. Like Phoenixville's tree, the electric snowflakes tell people this is a town that isn't paying attention to the calendar. Can you imagine the message that would be sent with banners proclaiming the march toward spring instead? We're all tired of snowflakes.
