Inside Barack Obama's America

I'm confused. I thought Barack Obama and the Democrats were supposed to take care of people like this.

From a Reading Eagle article on the growing problem of hunger in Berks County (and the rest of America):
Without the food pantry, Carol Reppert's seven-person household would struggle to put food on their table.

Reppert, 54, a lifelong city resident, said her son and daughter-in-law still sometimes skip meals to ensure there is enough food for their four children, ages 2 to 13.

"Sometimes the lady next door brings over food for the kids," she said. "I'm on disability and with my son on disability and my daughter working at a nursing home, we don't get much money.

"This definitely helps, but you're only allowed to go once a month. In this economy, with the churches helping, it helps the community because it might mean people won't have to steal just to get food to eat."

The recession has resulted in a dramatic increase in the percentage of Americans who are considered to have a low level of "food security," or the ability to consistently put enough food on the table.
