'The Government Peter Principle'

Meredith Turney, writing at Townhall.com, makes the argument that the Peter Principle not only applies to the business world but to government as well.

For you youngsters out there, "The Peter Principle" was a best-selling book by Dr. Laurence J. Peter and Raymond Hull, in which the authors argue: "In a hierarchy every employee tends to rise to his level of incompetence."

Take a look around at your office or place of business.

And think about the federal government and the level of incompetence found in FEMA or the U.S. Postal Service or the Medicare program or Social Security.

So what person in their right mind (I'm talking to you Nancy Pelosi) would want to entrust the nation's health care system to the federal government?

From Turney's column:
The massive healthcare bureaucracy being forced through Congress right now asks Americans to do something that defies logic and common sense: entrust their personal, private medical decisions to government. With the government's stellar record of efficiency, responsiveness and trustworthiness, it's hard to imagine why there are huge protests occurring all across the nation. Could Americans be suspicious of political promises of government guarantees for future complete medical care?
