Rep. Pitts on rising unemployment

The Department of Labor announced this morning that unemployment has risen to 9.8 percent with an additional 263,000 Americans losing jobs in the month of September.

U.S. Rep. Joe Pitts, who represents Pennsylvania's 16th Congressional District, issued the following statement:
"This morning's announcement shows that even more American families are struggling to find work. This recession is not over and Congress should focus on job creation.

"The stimulus act passed earlier this year has utterly failed to hold back unemployment. Few American businesses were truly stimulated by this act, leading many employers to make the difficult decision to cut payroll.

"Washington cannot create wealth. We need to reinvigorate our private sector, but unfortunately current priorities on Capitol Hill could lead to an increased tax burden on businesses that already have razor-thin margins making it harder for them to hire."
