Other People's Money

The Pottstown School Board, including two members who lost re-election bids in the May primary and another board member likely to lose her seat in November, wants to extend the contracts of four top district administrators before the new school board takes over in December.

The cost to Pottstown taxpayers would be about $3.2 million, according to The Pottstown Mercury.

The individual contracts of the four administrators do not expire for another eight months and the right thing to do is wait until the new board is sworn in to review the administrators' performance, but vindictive school board members want to stick it to the voters by saddling the new board (and taxpayers) with $3.2 million in expenses.

This is why "off-year" elections matter more to taxpayers than who is elected president or governor. Make sure you know who is running for your local school board and municipal offices on Nov. 3.
